It will help you maintain muscles at the optimum length, it will help to avoid injuries and increase the flexibility of the muscle tissue.

As an athlete, you can include massage in your regular training to increase muscle performance and have greater fitness results.

Because pain and injury are the most common factors that prevents athletes from reaching their full potential, a regular massage treatment will help the muscles to lower the risk of different soft tissues and associated overuse injuries.

BENEFITS

  • increase joint mobility by reducing any thickening of the connective tissue and helping to release restrictions in the fascia

  • free adhesions, break down scar tissue and decrease inflammation, as a result it can help to restore range of motion to stiff joints

  • improves muscle tone and balance, reducing the physical stress placed on bones and joints.

  • relieves muscular tightness, stiffness, spasms and restrictions in the muscle tissue.

  • it increases flexibility in the muscles due to muscular relaxation, increases blood circulation bringing more oxygen and nutrients into the tissue to reduce muscle fatigue and soreness.

  • the elasticity of muscles is improved because of the tissue manipulation, stretches the fibres and separate the muscle bundles

  • massage stimulates the sensory receptors - this can either stimulate or soothe nerves depending on the techniques used.

  • helps to reduce pain by the release of endorphins, known as the body’s own mood-lifting and pain-relieving hormones

PROCESS

I will conduct a subjective and objective assessment to identify if there is any pre-existing condition, or if there is muscles imbalance (short/tight muscles and short/length muscles), restrictions in the joints, postural dysfunctions.

During the session I use very little lotion as they provide a better grip of the muscle tissue, to increase the effectiveness of treatment and they are quickly absorbed by the skin. In the case of pre- or intra-events in some cases I go without because it can clog the pores in the skin making it difficult for the athlete to sweat or make the athlete slippery and uncomfortable and may interfere with performance
